Last week was Georgia Agriculture Awareness Week, and here in Habersham County, we know agriculture is our largest economic driver. “As we celebrate Agriculture Awareness Week, let us remember that agriculture is way more than just a job – it’s a way of life,” said Commissioner Tyler Harper.

SPLOST plans fall short

The rules for Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax – or SPLOST, as we all commonly know it – are specific and finite. We, the voters, have to pass SPLOST into existence, and our governments have to give us specific reasons (special purposes, if you will) for the money they will collect from us.

Donate your tax surplus

To the editor: Recently, Gov. Brian Kemp announced that our state budget ran a surplus this year returning $500 to each taxpayer. I extend my invitation in the form of a challenge. I will be forwarding my “extra” $500 to a charity and I challenge any able community members to donate your $500.

Give it all you’ve got

To the editor: Society would not allow me to be in the welding business if I did not give 100 percent at my job. Whether I liked the job or not, I still do it. I do not have the luxury to recuse myself from that job, because it is my job.

To the editor: I would like to thank the Habersham County Commissioners for finding a way to keep the Fitness Center located in the Ruby Fulbright Center open.
